Natural cut stone is becoming one of the most popular products found on the market today for both indoor and outdoor applications. There is no doubt that natural stone is one of the most durable and enduring products, as we look at the Wonders of the World such as Stonehenge, the Great Pyramid of Giza, and the Colosseum, one cannot help but be awestruck by the two things these ancient structures all have in common, their testament to time and they’re all made of natural stone. In addition to durability, natural stone offers a broad range of unique patterns, textures, and colors that truly stand up to the elements.

Homeowners today are investing much more in their outdoor living areas than ever before. Constructing beautiful pools and pool decks, elaborate outdoor kitchen, dining, and living rooms that act as an extension of the interior living spaces giving a feeling of increased square footage. In fact, one of the top current trends is to have a covered patio outfitted with high-quality building materials and furnishings built adjacent to the home creating a transitional space between the indoors and outdoors. Due to the desire to create a cohesive look between the two, homeowners are willing to invest in higher quality products that not only stand up to the elements but are as aesthetically pleasing as those you would find inside, and hardscapes are no exception.

One of the most commonly used ways homeowners and landscape designers are creating seamless movement between the indoor and outdoor spaces is with paver options that mimic or complement the interior flooring. The New American Remodel 2018 home features a perfect example of this type of transition. Homeowners and custom builders Victor and Caron Farina of Farina & Son’s, Inc. worked closely with their design team, Landscape Architect Scott Redmon of Redmon Design and Hardscape Installer, Mark Booth of Booth’s Cobblestones to create an enviable outdoor living space perfect for entertaining a crowd or just enjoying intimate dinners alfresco; Victor Farina emphasized that “Landscape design is very important and having continuity throughout was important to us and the designers. We all really wanted to keep the flow throughout the home and landscape unified, and Natural Paving was able to help us accomplish that.”

Natural Paving USA offers a unique option in natural stone hardscapes, as all their pavers are made of a solid stone and have been gauged and calibrated to offer a consistent thickness and size. This means a lot to the builder, as jobs are easier to plan and layout. In addition, the incredible strength of the solid sandstone pieces makes installation incredibly simple as the pieces are not brittle and cut just as easy as traditional concrete pavers, requiring no special tools or training. “Compared to other natural stone this is excellent! Because the stone is well gauged, has a small lip, is easy to cut and really durable, the guys enjoyed installing it, plus due to its properties we have minimal waste when working with it,” says Mark Booth.

The Promenade Classicstone, which was predominantly featured on the project exudes a modern yet classic look, Caron states “When we first saw the product [Classicstone] it was really complementary to the style of the house – it looked and felt historical and timeless. We also liked the [Promenade] coloration and pattern, as it is very natural looking and went with the overall flow of the interior of the house.” The natural texture and extra-large footprint of the pavers create a sense of grandeur and heft that convey the longevity offered by the natural stone.

Natural stone is an ideal candidate to create spectacular outdoor living spaces that will not only stand up to the elements and the test of time but create a seamless transition from interior to exterior spaces with modern yet natural aesthetics. With the right products, such as that featured by Natural Paving USA, installation can be accomplished just as easy for both stonemasons as well as paver installers, without any special tools. While the initial investment of natural stone may seem more than that of traditional concrete pavers, the value in natural stone far exceeds, with durability, ease of maintenance, and permanence.
